If you go to the dropbox, in the gnarled old tree on the Yarra bank – which ASIO used to claim kommunists used when it was a free speech domain on Sundays – I’ll leave a copy of the banned words there.
It was provided to me more than a decade ago when the bunker had staff (a Subscriber Liaison officer!, can you believe??) who could write (mostly) grammatically correct replies.
Unlike today’s substandard bot that usually doesn’t even bother to respond to complaints.

How insulting is it – and how pathetic that most accept meekly – to have comments awaiting approval?
From the all seeing, all wise subliterates of the editorial staff!

I think you’re quite right, newscorpse does a cut and paste of comments and litigates crikey for harbouring, with the kind of money crikey could only dream of.
When the ABC got rid of Drum comments they removed the only avenue for discourse for the general public that could stand up to conservative media.
The guardian had a hand in that arguing it unfairly impacted on their potential readership.

I have gained some interesting insight from you before thanks.

I also found him to be too clever by half , it was annoying , often insightful and memorable at the same time for me. You missed the one when his local deli bloke passed away and his description of himself in surfers pre election. His book critiques were educational subjects I wouldn’t otherwise consider
I consistently have to google reading his stuff .

What are your criteria when deciding which articles merit comments from readers and which do not?

Crikey is very dull without him.

If your comment disappears permanently, that’s censorship sure enough, but it’s a different issue to the ModBot phenomenon I was describing, where the ModBot pounces on a comment that is subsequently cleared hours or days later, and there is, literally officially and explicitly as confirmed by Crikey, no explanation for the ModBot’s behaviour.

The trigger word claim was only ever a distraction from the ideological censoriousness.
I never use them (from long experience I can even pick when they are hidden in benign normal words) and am regularly disappeared for wrongthink on all the usual, tediously trite PC nonsense du jour.
In just the last two days a dozen have been stopped and immediately flushed – I guarantee none contained naughty words, just forbidden concepts.
Since I learned how to make screenshots (onyl a decade late, being the ultimate Luddite for tekstuff) I have found it much easier to save the censored stuff in situ so can be compared to the preceding comment being replied to.

Today I was sufficiently irritated by yet another ModBot intervention that I used the ‘contact us’ form to ask Crikey what in my comment had triggered the ModBot. The reply I received could offer no no explanation, but it confirmed the comment in question contained no trigger words and conformed to the Crikey guidelines.

So that’s all right then. The ModBot can and does pounce arbitrarily, or on a whim, and that’s that. Ours not to reason why…
