Is Australia ‘giving away’ its natural resources?

No, no, no Diane. We are paying the multinationals to take them.

Good doggie, roll over and have your tummy scratched.

I see Israel and the US are starting to prepare for their new gas line from Gaza lucky how things turn out sometimes. Nord stream gets blown up and Gaza disappears and now the US, UK and Israel are going to supply Europe gas. We really aren’t the good guys.

Yes that interruption annoyed me too. And the indifferent way Stiglitz was treated generally on the panel, with little chance to say much.
But I think Karvelas is simply uninterested in the issues, rather than actively antagonistic. That’s the way she comes across to me on RN Breakfast.
Also her more animated demeanour this time on Q+A suggested she was probably under some desperate instruction to “liven things up.”

Australia, known to all carpetbaggers and shills as Treasure Island.

Do you even need to ask the questions?
Australia has always done as little as possible to profit from its natural resources; the attitude seems to be “let’s just dig stuff up and sell it”, rather than looking towards any kind of process that would value-add – that’s way too much hard work!
Whatever manufacturing industry we had has long departed and now we are reaping the cost of all those decades of lazy politicians pandering to billionaires.

Perhaps this was one of the reasons for the coup of 1975.

Like much of what ails this country, credit goes to The Lying Rodent and his boy treasurer The Smirk.

He was also interviewed for The Business a week or so ago, and Epstein’s radio show (Aug 7?).
I don’t think they thought he was worth 7:30 time?

And guess how they convert the gas into a liquid? Compression and Cooling uses almost as much gas as the rest of Australian industry. And how much do they pay for this gas? Well, almost nothing really. They already “own” it.

It has been more than 30 years since the great orgy of deregulation and privatisation and corporatisation of publicly owned assets occurred. The evidence is compelling, privatisation has completely failed to deliver the promised benefits to the Australian people. Electricity, gas, communications, banking, housing etc have all been monumental failures that have left consumers worse off and contributed to the exponential growth of wealth inequality.
